Understanding Caregiver Stress and Self-Care Strategies

Memory Café – Matteson

AgeWell Symposium

Colleen Ceh Becvar, Gerontologist – Discusses how aging gives us freedom to pursue new hobbies and activities to improve health and increase longevity.
Lydia K. Manning, PHD – Teaches us to recognize ageism and introduces strategies to fight stereotypes of aging to help create an age-inclusive environment.
Leanne Jackowiak – Leads a chair yoga session and explains the mental and physical benefits.

Early-Stage Memory Loss Support Group (8 Weeks)

Starts September 25
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association and Orland Park Library, Pathlights is hosting an eight-week support group for those living with early-stage dementia or MCI (mild cognitive impairment) and their care partners. “Early-stage” refers to people, irrespective of age, who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders and are in the beginning stages of the disease. This group will offer dementia-related education and emotional support and connections with resources.

End of Life Wishes – Starting the Conversation

Caregiver Stress-Busting Dementia Program (9 Weeks)

Do you provide care for someone with Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia?
This is a multi component program focusing on support, problem-solving, education, and stress management techniques. It addresses stress and the impact of long-term stress, managing difficult behaviors/conditions, grief, coping strategies, positive thinking, taking care of yourself, and choosing a path to wellness. A different stress management technique is demonstrated each week.

Each session is 90 minutes every Thursday for 9 consecutive weeks starting soon. We meet in small groups of up to 8 people and materials for the program will be provided.
